Revolutionary War period ‘Hessian’ Soldier Folding Pocket Knife

Dated circa 1775-1780, this is a Rare 18th Century Revolutionary War period “Hessian” Soldier Folding Pocket Knife made of bone and horn (1775 - 1780). One of only a handful of known examples of this kind, the folding pocket knife is made of carved bone and horn.

The top section depicts the headgear, face, hair queue and epaulets of a “Hessian” soldier. The body, made of pressed horn, shows on one side an arm holding a sword. Very good overall condition considering its age.

Joyce Banda, who became Malawi’s first female president last month, is hitting the ground running. In her first state of the nation address, she announced that as “a matter of urgency” she’ll seek to repeal the country’s laws criminalizing homosexuality. Banda seems to have enough support in parliament to get the laws overturned, but Malawi is still a conservative country, so it’s a gutsy move.

i hope she pushes it through!!! good for her

Sword & Pistol

Amazing exemplair of sword and pistol. The blade is from Carlos IV era rapier. Percussion pistol frame marked “BALT” is has a stylized animal head hammer, elongated trigger works well. The weapon as a fluted wood grips.

The pommel is a bit odd, but is designed so the user can extend his hand at a degree for shooting. Pitting spots on both sides of the blade. Blade is still robust and flexible measuing 36 inches overall; 30 1/4 inch blade.

By Adrián Villar Rojas, a most fascinating environmental sculpture, a to scale blue whale situated in Ushuaia, Ukraine. The subtle addition of the tree stumps to make it look like it is already being assimilated by nature, brilliant touch.
